Root Canals

Endodontic therapy, also known as endodontic treatment or root canal therapy, is treatment for the infected pulp of a tooth which results in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion.

What are the symptoms of an infection inside your tooth?

  • Visible injury or swelling of the tooth
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
  • Pain in your tooth and gums.

Anatomy of the Tooth

Gums, also called gingiva, are the fleshy, pink connective tissue that’s attached to the neck of the tooth and cementum. Pulp is the innermost portion of the tooth. It’s made of tiny blood vessels and nerve tissue. When the pulp or soft inner layer becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe tooth pain. Bacteria that are associated with very deep restorations, fractures, decay, trauma or periodontal disease may permanently damage the pulp in your tooth thus, resulting in the need of a root canal.
